This is a book which uses the interesting subject of proverbs as a way of getting the reader interested in the English language. The book describes proverbs and, in particular, illustrates many examples where a proverb contradicts another - hence, the title CAN YOU TRUST A PROVERB? The contradictions will surprise the reader. It is the writers view that a briefest study of proverbs will entice the reader to consider in more detail the English language. The result being the beneficial effect on the readers career and on life generally. All languages benefit from the inclusion of proverbs and proverbial expressions and without their words of wisdom and wit languages would be duller. It is, therefore, in everyones interest to keep proverbs alive. The reader can help in that respect. As a modern proverbial expression says - every little helps. As the reader examines lists of proverbs it will be seen that there is a proverb for most situations and subjects. To prove that last sentence consider - You cant judge a book by its cover!
