Ratner, Vaddey
Vaddey Ratner tinha cinco anos de idade quando o Khmer Vermelho assumiu o poder, em 1975. Depois de quatro anos, tendo sofrido trabalhos forçados, fome e o risco de execução, ela e sua mãe fugiram enquanto muitos dos membros de sua família morreram. Em 1981, ela chegou aos Estados Unidos como refugiada, sem saber inglês, e em 1990, formou-se no Ensino Médio e foi oradora oficial da turma. É pós-graduada summa cum laude pela Universidade de Cornell, onde se especializou em história e literatura do Sudeste Asiático. Nos últimos anos, viajou e viveu no Camboja e no Sudeste Asiático, escrevendo e pesquisando, o que culminou em seu romance de estreia, À sombra da figueira. Vive em Potomac, Maryland. |
