Platinum-Palladium Printing is a comprehensive guide to mastering the traditional platinum-palladium develop-out (DOP) process, offering both practical techniques and insights into contemporary applications of this noble metal printing method.
The first part of this book provides an extensive how-to section. It covers everything from setting up an alternative 'dimroom' and selecting supplies to troubleshooting common issues. Readers will learn about paper types like washi, combination printing techniques, as well as step-by-step processes for mixing chemistry, creating digital negatives, and producing archival-quality prints. The guide also details methods for using both traditional (potassium chlorate) and modern (Na2) contrast agents, introduces a non-toxic archival clearing method, and provides best practices for finishing, framing, and storing prints. The second part highlights contemporary artists who graciously share both their techniques and their works, showcasing innovative approaches that highlight the versatility and beauty of this process.
Platinum-Palladium Printing is ideal for photographers, printmakers, and artists interested in alternative photographic processes, as well as educators and students seeking a thorough resource on this timeless technique. Whether you are a beginner exploring the basics or an experienced practitioner refining your craft, this book offers valuable insights and inspiration.
