Since 2006, the national high school graduation rate has continued to increase, however, black students only graduated at 75% in 2015 as compared to 88% for whites. Black males in particular are under-represented in advanced placement (AP) classes and have lower standardized test scores. As a parent of two young boys, Ms. McGill Carpenter set out to identify the underlying causes of the achievement gap and create a solution. The result was Club 2012. The impact was tremendous! The participants achieved a 100% high school graduation rate. Additionally, close to 75% of the young men graduated from college. This groundbreaking book offers parents a way to work with schools to create the environment needed to allow young Black men to thrive in school.
