MARYSE CONDÉ nasceu em Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadalupe, em 1937. É uma das mais premiadas escritoras de língua francesa. Doutora em Literatura Comparada pela Sorbonne, lecionou em diversas universidades como Berkeley, Universidade da Virgínia e Columbia, onde fundou o Centro de estudos franceses e francófonos. Sua extensa obra incluí romances, contos, teatro e ensaios. Publicado originalmente em 1999, O coração que chora e que ri venceu o prêmio Marguerite Yourcenar. Entre as obras publicadas em português estão Eu, Tituba: bruxa negra de Salem (2020), e O evangelho do novo mundo (2022). Em 2018 recebeu o The New Academy Prize em literatura, o prêmio alternativo ao Nobel, suspenso aquele ano. |
